Down to Under investigates the city’s influence on the human body. In view of video gaming, internet and Generation Z culture, the urban space works as an algorithm, a playground, a battleground, a living space, a field of ever-flowing stimuli as well as a confinement.
In this environment, the performing body enacts physicalities and gestures appearing in urban underground music-based subcultures, such as hip-hop/rap, emo, noise, hardcore and punk, exploring forms of social disobedience through movement and sound. This obnoxious figure, charged by the effects of social injustice and struggle, proactively appropriates urban space and exposes their confusion, frustration and rage while allowing their physical efforts to transform into vulnerability and tenderness.
Despina Sanida Crezia was born in 1998 in Athens. She works as a performer and performance maker. She graduated from the State School of Dance and the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Athens. As a performer she has collaborated with many artists from Greece and abroad.
