In the 1960s’ Fela Kuti, inspired by Black Power and Pan-Africanism, created Afrobeat, a unique blend of West African traditional music, jazz and soul-funk – both genres are also the modern incarnation of long forgotten musical style.
Today, a new generation of musicians and urban dancers bring Afrobeat back to life. Nine emerging hip hop, krump or dancehall artists take us on a journey to tell the many lives of Afrobeat, its fights, the culture that was destroyed by slavery and colonialism, but whose depth is about to come back to the surface, unchanged.
