The impact of the lunar cycles varies from person to person. Luck, fertility, tides, werewolves and the loss of reason are just some of the esoteric beliefs that populate the collective imagination. For the musicians, DJs, dancers and visual artists in the Moonshine collective, the planetary satellite (the moon) is above all the inspiration for their eponymous monthly event, held ‘every Saturday after the full moon’ and bringing together an audience driven by an inclusive ethos and a shared love of musical experimentation and clubbing.

Since 2014, Moonshine has celebrated a wide range of Afro-electronic talent, establishing itself as a focal point for fans of the genre. As the name suggests, the recipe is to throw a party every Saturday after the full moon at changing venues, kept secret until the last minute and revealed only by text message. With the sound of resident DJs Pierre Kwenders, Vanyfox, San Farafina and AKAntu, visual installations and a host of musicians, MCs and guest artists including Kaytranada, Dâm-Funk, Le1f, Venus X, Foreigner, Bambii, Uproot Andy and Branko, the Moonshine collective has become a benchmark for clubbing and electronic music in Canada and abroad. Moonshine was born in Montreal and now presents its events in NYC, Los Angeles, London, Lisbon, Milan, Paris, Brussels, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Santiago.

Moonshine's DNA was born out of the parties we used to organise in our kitchens,’ recalls Pierre Kwenders. ‘We couldn't find the same atmosphere at other parties. That's one of the reasons Moonshine was born, with the aim of sharing that energy with people like us who were looking for that kind of sound and vibe.’ Eight years on, Moonshine is building on the aesthetic, network and structure that the collective has established over the years to promote the artists affiliated to the collective, expanding its remit from organising ephemeral moonlit evenings to curating and showcasing a growing catalogue of music, audiovisual content and fashion.
