Unmoving in his chair yet travelling far and wide, an imposing Shakespearean actor recounts, in language that sounds British yet is incomprehensible, a delirious journey across Europe. That of an ancestor – perhaps – who crossed lands and seas in search of a totally improbable mermaid. His sidekick runs here, there and everywhere trying hard to get us to understand the meaning of the journey with the help of hilarious mimes and posters and more crazy cardboard boxes.
Pierre Guillois and Olivier Martin-Salvan, the mischievous creators and performers, combine the spirit of Monty Python and the comedy of clowns in this laugh-along epic. Les gros patinent bien – meaning The Big ’Uns Skate Well – is a theatrical adventure as crazy as its title, an unbelievable creation of a cardboard cabaret that was crowned best show at the Molières in 2022.
